About the Job

WordPress Playground is looking for a Senior Developer to help shape the future of WordPress by building cutting-edge tools and inspiring the community with bold prototypes. This role is perfect for someone excited about both deep technical work and the people who use the technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build low-level PHP tools for potential inclusion in WordPress Core (e.g. WPWP sync, git clients, streaming parsers)

  • Read technical specifications, web standards, and RFCs

  • Develop experimental prototypes such as WordPress IDEs, testing utilities, or blueprint builders

  • Coordinate with the WordPress community and Automattic teams

  • Write and review TypeScript and PHP code, submit GitHub issues and PRs

  • Engage respectfully in community feedback, support contributions, and improve documentation and APIs

Requirements

You should have deeply explored 1–2 (or more) of the following areas:

  • WebAssembly

  • Offline apps

  • Real-time collaboration

  • Mobile apps

  • Data stream processing

  • Parser development

  • Browser extensions

  • Web browser internals (e.g. Chromium)
