The Medical City for Military and Security Services (MCMSS) in Muscat, Oman, is a Tertiary/Quaternary Care level facility providing comprehensive services to patients across various specialties. Role Overview
The Mental Health Nurse will provide comprehensive mental health care to individuals, families, and communities. This includes the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with mental health disorders. The role focuses on both inpatient and outpatient care, therapeutic communication, and crisis intervention, ensuring a holistic approach to patient well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care:
- Assess and monitor patients' mental health status through interviews, observations, and medical history reviews.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Administer medication and monitor for side effects or efficacy.
- Provide therapeutic interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or other psychotherapeutic techniques.
- Conduct risk assessments for self-harm, suicide, or violence, and develop crisis intervention strategies.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss and plan patient care.
Documentation:
- Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential patient records, including treatment plans, medication logs, and progress notes.
- Adhere to legal and ethical guidelines in documenting patient information.
Education and Support:
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment plans, and coping strategies.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and support groups for in-patients with mental health disorders.
Crisis Management:
- Respond to mental health crises, providing appropriate interventions and support to stabilize patients.
- Participate in de-escalation techniques during psychiatric emergencies.
Quality Improvement:
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in mental health nursing.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the psychiatric unit to enhance patient care.
Patient Safety:
- Ensure a safe environment for patients by following proper procedures, reporting hazards, and adhering to hospital safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with at least a diploma in Mental Health Nursing.
- License/Certification: Valid nursing license in Oman.
- Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience working in a mental health setting preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in high-stress environments and manage mental health crises.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications and their side effects.
- Proficiency in therapeutic techniques such as CBT or DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Working Conditions
- Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to emotionally challenging situations involving patients in psychiatric crises.
- Work may occur in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Salary will be based upon qualifications, experience, and availability of vacancies, using Oman Medical Bylaw.

المسؤوليات الرئيسية
رعاية المرضى:
- تقييم ومراقبة حالة المرضى النفسية من خلال المقابلات والملاحظات ومراجعة السجلات الطبية.
- تطوير وتنفيذ خطط رعاية فردية بالتعاون مع فريق متعدد التخصصات.
- إدارة الأدوية ومراقبة الآثار الجانبية أو الفعالية.
- تقديم التدخلات العلاجية، مثل العلاج السلوكي المعرفي (CBT) أو تقنيات نفسية أخرى.
- إجراء تقييمات المخاطر للانتحار أو العنف وتطوير استراتيجيات التدخل في الأزمات.
التعاون:
- العمل بشكل وثيق مع الأطباء النفسيين وعلماء النفس والعاملين الاجتماعيين وغيرهم من المهنيين الصحيين لضمان رعاية شاملة للمرضى.
- المشاركة في اجتماعات الفريق متعدد التخصصات لمناقشة وتخطيط رعاية المرضى.
التوثيق:
- الحفاظ على سجلات دقيقة وسرية للمرضى، بما في ذلك خطط العلاج، وسجلات الأدوية، وملاحظات التقدم.
- الالتزام بالمبادئ القانونية والأخلاقية في توثيق معلومات المرضى.
التعليم والدعم:
- تثقيف المرضى وعائلاتهم حول حالات الصحة النفسية، وخطط العلاج، واستراتيجيات التكيف.
- تسهيل جلسات العلاج الجماعي ومجموعات الدعم للمرضى النفسيين.
إدارة الأزمات:

- المشاركة في تقنيات تخفيف التوتر أثناء الطوارئ النفسية.

- المساهمة في مبادرات تحسين الجودة داخل الوحدة النفسية لتعزيز رعاية المرضى.
سلامة المرضى:
- ضمان بيئة آمنة للمرضى من خلال اتباع الإجراءات المناسبة، والإبلاغ عن المخاطر، والامتثال لبروتوكولات السلامة بالمستشفى.
المؤهلات
- التعليم: دبلوم أو درجة بكاليوس في التمريض مع دبلوم على الأقل في تمريض الصحة النفسية.
- الرخصة/الشهادة: رخصة تمريض سارية في عمان.
- الخبرة: يفضل خبرة من 2 إلى 3 سنوات في بيئة الصحة النفسية.
- المهارات:
- مهارات تواصل شخصية قوية.
- القدرة على العمل في بيئات عالية الضغط وإدارة الأزمات النفسية.
- معرفة بالأدوية النفسية وآثارها الجانبية.
- إتقان تقنيات العلاج مثل CBT أو DBT (العلاج السلوكي الجدلي).
- القدرة على العمل بشكل تعاوني في فريق متعدد التخصصات.
ظروف العمل
- قد تشمل النوبات العمل ليلاً أو في عطلات نهاية الأسبوع والأعياد.
- التعرض لمواقف عاطفية صعبة تتعلق بالمرضى في الأزمات النفسية.
- قد يتم العمل في بيئات داخل المستشفى وخارجه.
