Senior Medical Advisor
Main purpose of role:
- The role of the Medical Office is to bring medical/scientific and drug safety related insights and expertise to ADVANZ PHARMA and to be subject matter experts across the following functional areas: global medical affairs, global healthcare compliance, global patient safety and global clinical development.
- This entails engaging and collaborating with healthcare organizations, healthcare professionals and customers – both internal and external - and generating and communicating relevant, meaningful, and impactful data.
- In so doing, the Medical Office represents the voice of the patient in all matters; works to ensure that products are supported by relevant, up to date data and retain a positive benefit/risk profile; helps to drive our scientific credibility and reputation as a company; enables stakeholders to make informed choices for patients; operates with due regard to all relevant regulations and compliance requirements.
- Biosimilars can deliver long-term value for patients, physicians, healthcare systems and society. With the potential to widen patient access and make significant cost savings to healthcare systems, our vision for the future is to lead thinking on optimising biosimilar innovation for patients and healthcare systems alike.
- The role of the Global Medical Adviser, Biosimilars is to provide expert medical input into the development, registration and commercialization of biosimilar products to patients across an extended range of therapeutic areas including dermatology, gastroenterology and rheumatology; specifically, the role will call for medical expert biosimilar insights into the ADVANZ PHARMA-Partner development programme(s), regulatory dossier preparation and submission, launch preparation and execution and in-market scientific management of multiple biosimilars across a broad range of indications.
- A key component of this role is external customer engagement to inform and shape global and local medical strategy.
Key responsibilities:
- • Strategic Medical Affairs leadership for the biosimilars portfolio with overall responsibility for developing, owning and executing the global medical affairs plan. Ensures medical affairs tactics are developed to support the strategy and are implemented according to the medical plan.
- • MA leadership of other specialty products at the discretion of Line Manager, and dependent upon portfolio and pipeline evolution
- • Act as strategic medical affairs advisor to the respective commercial business unit and works cross-functionally with other internal partners to provide product/therapy area medical expertise across all business areas (i.e. other functions within the Medical Office, Regulatory, Corporate Development, Legal, Scientific Affairs, and Affiliate Commercial teams).
- • Work closely to support clinical development in their oversight of partner biosimilar development programmes; active input into regulatory dossier preparation, review and submission
- • Coordinate launch planning activities for key product(s)of strategic interest; develop key medical data summaries/presentations and the like to ensure successful market preparation for new products. Develop and execute medical training activities globally. Be a strategic collaborator in relevant brand teams and ensure medical alignment with business objectives where possible.
- • Identify and engage with key external experts within given product/therapy area, so as to ensure that external insights inform medical affairs strategic plans, and internal development opportunities; identify key medical trends and emerging issues with respect to a given therapy area, and inform project and affiliate teams as necessary.
- • Active engagement in the planning, oversight, implementation of relevant congresses, symposia, scientific exchange meetings and the like, ensuring that all activities are compliant with ADVANZ PHARMA requirements; interact with key medical societies relevant to strategic medical affairs plan. Develop medical / scientific communication materials within designated product/therapy area.
- • Identify, develop and implement global advisory boards as required to support the planning and execution of Global Medical Affairs strategic plan elements; participate in national/regional advisory boards, as appropriate.
- • Lead activity related to the generation of data supporting the scientific and business strategy. Specifically, responsible for direction and planning of (where relevant) phase IIIb/IV studies, registries, database and exploratory data analyses (incorporating Real World Evidence data generation). Publication planning, delivery, and dissemination.
- • Support affiliate medical organisations where expert medical affairs input, guidance or direction is needed.
- • In close collaboration with, and under direction from, Vice President, Global Medical Affairs, undertake expert assessment of new product opportunities and provide expert medical insights and analysis for key product acquisition and development projects.
- • Ensure product/therapy area specific training materials are current, comprehensive, and accurate and serve as key educator for internal teams, and other relevant stakeholders; deliver training to internal / external stakeholders as needed.
- • Medical review and approval of promotional and non-promotional materials.
- • Establish and maintain key performance indicators, and metrics – aimed at demonstrating added value for medical affairs and focusing activities towards achieving the ADVANZ PHARMA Medical Office Vision.
- • Manage project budget within given product(s)/therapy area.
- • Ensure all activities are undertaken with due regard to ADVANZ PHARMA compliance requirements, and relevant rules/regulations.
- • Other tasks, as directed by the supervisor, or based on specific appointment, or determined during the annual objectives setting process, or by relevant key performance indicators

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Educated to Degree Level (BSc or BA)
- ABPI Qualified
Experience & Competences:
- Academic degree in medicine or advanced life sciences degree with several years’ experience working with Biosimilars, with robust understanding of biosimilar development and launch across therapy areas
- Medical Affairs experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries, in a predominantly international setting.
- A broad and demonstrated understanding of drug development and commercialization processes; sound knowledge of the regulatory environment; experience in overseeing or conducting clinical trials; a solid understanding of trial design and methodology and an understanding of the need to balance safety and efficacy concerns.
- Experience in a franchise specific clinical specialty; established knowledge of key external experts within given a specialty area.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach, and will be adept at developing and supporting relationships across an organization as well as with key external stakeholders and the healthcare community at large. Experience being an active contributor to cross-functional teams and/or working in matrix organizations will be essential. Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Fluent in English both written and spoken
