Job Purpose
* To consult to Area Superintendents to:
* Design and project-manage the construction of buildings, equipment and facilities ,
* Procure equipment to meet the Business needs
Responsibilities
* Consult to the Business on small-scale construction projects or equipment purchases to deliver tactical improvements or
business solutions. OR, support the Senior Engineer to consult on large-scale projects or equipment purchases.
Manage the Business (Client) relationship
- Engage the Client; understand the business, the business need and the business case
- Articulate the project brief and scope of work
- Manage the Client's expectations in relation to cost, timetable, constraints (resource, engineering, regulatory)
Plan and administer the project
- Set objectives; plan the tasks and activities; determine the resource requirements; determine the timeline and the
sequencing and determine project cost flows.
- Implement the design process
- Analyse EHS risks inherent in the project and structure the design to mitigate the risks
- Establish control mechanisms
- Apply the SAP project module and other tools for enhancing engineering design and delivery
Commission Consultants and Contractors; manage routine briefs involving one or two consultants or contractors
- Know the Consultants and Contractors and their capabilities. Understand the Client needs; match the appropriate
consulting skills and experience to the task
- Brief Consultants and or Contractors
- With support apply Methods of Procurement, including Bid and Evaluation processes to hire Contractors or Consultants
- With support accept and evaluate proposals and quotations. Award the work. Notify Supply Chain who commits the work
- Manage the Consultants, deliver the appropriate information and support to enable the Consultants to perform to the
highest possible standards
Action engineering tasks:
- Review, prepare or evaluate plans, specifications or prepare engineering documents
- Perform calculations and review others' calculations
- Analyse projects and tasks
- Know and apply standards, procedures, statutes, codes, regulations. Resolve conflicting design constraints
Manage the budget:
- Manage the schedule and costs
- Prepare budget reports. Justify cost variations
- Ensure process/procedures are followed on all capex projects
* Action the SA Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) routines to maintain high EHS standards
- Deliver a safe work environment
- Ensure that SA’s high EHS standards are embedded in Project Plans and designs
* Apply technical skills to enable continuous improvement
- Apply engineering knowledge and skills to review and update documents and procedures.
- Implement initiatives to address inconsistencies in practices and documentation
* Train and develop others to build the team’s technical capability and to deliver a step up in Departmental performance
- Develop and deliver technical training modules on known concepts
- Transfer technical knowledge to more junior staff through briefings and on-the-job coaching
Requirements
Essential qualifications, Experience and skills:
• Mechanical/ Civil Engineering degree with a least 5 years of engineering and projects related experience.
Desired experience and skills:
• Technology: Good SAP experience
• Business knowledge: a good understanding of one Area of the business, including the production processes, the
equipment and production economics
• Sohar Aluminium experience including knowledge of the organisational structure and decision-making processes,
business needs and constraints, budget, planning, legal and public relations constraints
